RNS: The government has decided to completely ban e-cigarettes in the country with its use, sale, manufacturing, import, export, transportation, storage and advertisement. However, e- cigarettes are not manufactured in India despite various kinds of them being available in the market. The government will promulgate an ordinance in this regard.
Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman has announced the cabinet decision that it has been made a cognisable offence. If anyone caught will be fined Rs 1 lakh and one years imprisonment or both if this has been for the first time but in subsequent offence the fine will go up to Rs 3 lakh and five years in jail or both. There has been a 60 per cent growth in this regard. Hukkas to will also come under its purview.
