RNS: Amidst lockdown, Bokaro got top position in implementing Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), provided work to maximum workers in Jharkhand.
Presently, 5133 schemes are being implemented in various blocks and panchayats across the district and about 14000 labourers are working, informed Rahul Kumar Bharti DPRO Bokaro.
A nationwide lockdown was imposed on 23 March aiming to check the spread of the novel coronavirus infection. In the current scenario of lockdown, implementation of MNREGA schemes has been started in a large number of districts in view of the difficulties of workers, he said.
“In implementing schemes and providing works to the workers under MGNREGA, Bokaro district stood first followed by Giridih second while Ranchi scored the third position,” he added.
The schemes are being implemented with promptness by the officials, which are seeing positive results, he said.
According to government records, only 30 lakh people were provided work under the MGNREGA in April, about 17 per cent of the usual amid the Central government gave explicit instructions to reopen its flagship rural jobs scheme from 20 April this year.
Meanwhile, the state government recently announced to bring in new guidelines to widen the scope of work under the MGNREGA to provide jobs to migrant workers returning homes, and sent buses to West Bengal for bringing back people of the state stranded there due to lockdown.
