World’s largest vaccination drive rolls out in India against COVID-19

RNS: World’s largest vaccination campaign against Coronavirus launched in India on Saturday; Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the vaccination program through video conferencing.

Over 1.91 lakhs people have been vaccinated, on day one, of the massive nationwide vaccination drive. A total of 16 thousand 755 personnel were involved in organizing the immunization session sites, said Dr Manohar Agnani, Additional Health Secretary.

“No case of post-vaccination hospitalisation has been reported so far,” he added.

Speaking on the occasion Modi stressed that this type of large-scale vaccination campaign has never before been run in history. He pointed out that India is vaccinating three crore people in its first phase of vaccination.

“During the second phase, 30 crore people will be vaccinated,” added Modi.

PM praised all the scientists involved in making the vaccine against Coronavirus for the past several months. He was delighted to prepare two vaccines, ‘Made in India’ in such a short duration, too.
Indian vaccines are much cheaper than foreign vaccines but are equally good. He said there are some vaccines abroad whose single dose cost up to 5,000 rupees and have to be kept in a freeze at minus 70-degree temperature, said PM.

He said India’s vaccines got global credibility because of their track record. Out scientists gave the nod to the two made-in-India vaccines after being sure of their effects, said Modi. He urged people not to heed rumours and propaganda.

Modi also highlighted the need to have two doses of corona vaccine. Keep a gap of about one month between the first and second dose. The body will develop immunity against the corona only two weeks after the second dose.

The Prime Minister gave the mantra of “Dawai Bhi, Kadaai Bhi” and requested people not to make the mistake of taking off the mask and not maintaining social distancing after getting the first dose.

He said India’s fight against COVID 19 has been one of self-confidence and self-reliance.
