ESL organises Dist. Archery Tournament; 40 qualifies for State

Bokaro: ESL Steel Limited, a Vedanta Group Company organised a district-level archery tournament in association with the Bokaro District Archery Association, at its Archery Ground.

A total of 75 participants took part in the tournament including 55 from Bokaro and 20 from Vedanta-ESL Archery Academy. Twenty-five archers from Chandankiyari, Bokaro SAIL and 15 archers from Vedanta-ESL Archery Academy have been selected for State-level tournaments under the category of 9, 14, 17 and 21 years, informed an ESL Public Relations official.

Speaking on the occasion, Pankaj Malhan, CEO, ESL Steel Limited said, ESL is proud to collaborate with Bokaro District Archery Association for the district tournament that will see active participation from brilliant archers who are enthusiastic about the sport.

“We look to encourage the youth to engage in sports with more such initiatives and hope that they continue to take Jharkhand’s sports legacy forward,” he added.

ESL inaugurated its Archery Academy in Siyaljori four months earlier to support and promote the sport in Jharkhand, which has traditionally been involved in the field of archery and has produced some of the finest talents in the field, said a PR official.
Now, the state-of-the-art academy, which is fully equipped with facilities such as accommodation, dining, gym, archery kits, uniforms and medical facility, trains individuals under experts from the field. With this, the kids and youth in Bokaro have access to the finest academy in their vicinity to polish their archery skills and shine bright in the future, he said.

Anil Kumar, President of Bokaro District Archery Association said, Archery is one of the priority games for the government, particularly for the village sector. Meanwhile, our Prime Minister has set a target for getting a gold medal in the 2024 Olympic Games. “For this, each state has been assigned a game under the ‘One State One Game’ strategy. For Jharkhand, Archery has been chosen,” added Kumar.

On this move, the opening of an Archery Academy and organising this tournament by ESL would be a great initiative to further the PM’s vision, he said.

“This will also give a platform to the local archers and imbibing a competitive spirit within them. These young archers will play for the state and possibly will represent the country in the future,” added Kumar.
