Bokaro: Around fifty Nand Ghars established by Vedanta Group of Company— ESL Steel Limited were inaugurated at Sindurpeti, aiming to promote education, women empowerment and eradication of child malnutrition in Bokaro on Tuesday. Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren virtually inaugurated the Nand Ghars.
ESL has set a target of operating 150 Nandghars by the end of 2021. We have come closer to this goal by changing the lives of 8.5 crore children and 2 crore women in 13.7 lakh Anganwadis. About 2100 such structures already exist in 10 states of India, informed the official.
A dream CSR project of Vedanta is dedicated to benefiting the rural children and women of India by transforming traditional Anganwadis into Nand Ghar— modern, fully equipped structures. These modern structures provide an environment conducive to children’s early childhood development, their Encourages cognitive, social and emotional development. Nand Ghar, operated in collaboration with the Ministry of Women and Child Development, ensures that rural India is not left behind in the country’s path of progress.
These have several key features such as smart TVs for e-learning, 24/7 power backup, seismic structures, toilets, water purifiers, solar panels and kitchen gardens, making them model resource centers for the community. Apart from providing nutritious food to women and children, Nandghar also provides ration for pregnant women, lactating women and children to take home. They are provided primary health facilities through mobile vans. In addition, women are also enabled in skills, credit linkage and enterprise development.
Speaking on the occasion, Soren said, Vedanta is known for its developmental initiatives and I have always been supported it. Nand Ghar is a positive step towards ensuring India’s rapid progress. “Children are the future of our country and there can be no other initiative to make their life better than Nand Ghar,” he added.
“I congratulate the Vedanta family, who set this goal through Nand Ghars. With this initiative, the company has also supported the state government in the development of women and children.
Soren also interacted with Nand Ghar staff and community members and congratulated them for their hard work and dedication.

“I am happy to announce that, we have successfully opened 50 Nandghars in Bokaro and have set a target of opening at least 100 more such centers,” added Malhan.
