Bokaro: Bokaro soon to get a unique iconic Olympic Garden, like London’s famed Kew Gardens or the Royal Botanic Gardens with Olympics rings — flowers (plants) in each of the ring’s five colors. This might be the first of its kind of a garden in the country, said an official.
The Director-in-charge, Bokaro Steel Plant (BSL), Amarendu Prakash, has given, the principal approval for the Olympic Garden concept at Bokaro Steel City on Saturday.
We have identified four-five spots to develop the garden, which would be easily visible to the passerby or visitors, informed an official.
“Very soon, a beautiful garden would be identified at Bokaro, which will be a cynosure for the citizen of the town as well as the visitors. This will enhance the sporting ambiance of India’s first Global Active partner city,” said Jaideep Sarkar, Lead Officer of Global Active Partner City & a member of the Olympic fraternity closely associated with the mission.
“CISF along with Anjani Kumar Sinha, State head of Amrit Krishi of Swadeshi Jagran Manch and Horticulture Department of SAIL Bokaro will shoulder the puritan responsibilities for the purpose,” added the Official.
The iconic Olympic rings at the garden will have five colors of flower rings. Types of flower plants to be used at proposed Olympic Garden at par with Kew Olympic Garden, London includes— Yellow: French marigold (Tagetes patula); Blue: Garden lobelia (Lobelia erinus); Red: Pelargonium geranium; Green: Apple mint (Mentha suaveolens) and Black: Lilyturf (Ophiopogon planiscapus), he informed.
Notably, Bokaro Steel City was recently honored with ‘Global Active Partner City’ standard; now becomes the first city in India and the second one in Asia to get this place. Karasiyaka in Turkey in Asia is the first city, got a prestigious standard.
Under the ‘nucleus mission’ protected and supported by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Bokaro Steel City is connected to the Global Active City programme. This nucleus project (through the IOC) is an attempt to give a new direction to the society by connecting Bokaro city under the Olympics in action so that residents of Bokaro district can be prepared in different areas through a healthy and functional environment.
Bokaro Steel City is a planned city established and maintained by Bokaro Steel Plant (BSL) and is well known as ‘Educational’ and ‘Steel’ hub. Now the city is turning as ‘Sports Hub’; got the place in the worldwide list of ‘Active Well-being Initiative Network’s sponsored by the IOC Committee.
To promote sports and events for the well-being of mass, around 39 sports centers were soon to be developed in the Bokaro Steel’s township area and its periphery.
All these sports centers would be developed for the sports activities includes Volleyball, Badminton, Handball, Cricket, Football, Hockey, Kabbidi and for the Walking Tracks, he said.
“Our vision is to build a healthy city and healthy society through sports so that our citizens and the coming generations can become the toppers in every field,” said Jaideep.
SAIL Bokaro has launched annual sports and cultural calendar; also initiated a number of sporting events and avenues during the commemoration of SAIL Foundation Day on 24 January in close cooperation with Bokaro Administration. Prior to that, the Director in charge in his New Year message has also declared the year 2021 as the “Year of Sports & Well Being.”
