‘Live Saver’ drug- Remdesivir injection price cuts to half

RNS: The price of Remdesivir injection reduced after the government’s intervention on Saturday in a bid to make it more affordable for patients.

Several pharma companies have announced to cuts the price for Remdesivir injections after Centre’s intervention to make it affordable availability, it said in a memorandum of National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority.

In a tweet Union Minister of State for Chemicals and Fertilisers Mansukh L Mandaviya said: “Due to the government’s intervention, the price of #Remdesivir Injection is now reduced! I am thankful to pharmaceutical companies for joining hands with the Government to fight against COVID-19 Pandemic.”

Many firms have slashed the price of their respective brands of ‘life-saver’ drug—Remdesivir injection (100 mg/vial) by nearly 50 per cent.

  • Cadila Healthcare’s Remdac will now cost Rs. 899 instead of Rs. 2,800.
  • Syngene International’s RemWin will now cost Rs. 2,450 instead of Rs. 3,950.
  • Dr Reddy’s Redyx will be available at Rs. 2, 700 instead of Rs. 5,400.
  • Cipla’s Cipremi will cost Rs. 3,000 instead of Rs. 4000.
  • Mylan Pharmaceutical’s Desrem will be available at Rs. 3,400 instead of Rs. 4,800.
  • Jubilant Generic’s Jubi-R will now cost Rs. 3,400 instead of Rs. 4,700.
  • Hetero Healthcare’s Covifor will be available at Rs. 3490 instead of Rs. 5,400.

Notably, in view of increased demand for the medicine due to a spike in COVID-19 cases, the government prohibited the export of Remdesivir injection and its active pharmaceutical ingredients (API) a few days earlier (till the situation in the country improves).
