RNS: A third wave of coronavirus pandemic is inevitable (inescapable) due to the way the virus is growing, no one can stop it, warned K.K. Vijay Raghavan, the Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India.
“However, when it will come and how it will effect, it is difficult to predict right now. But we should prepare for this new wave” he added while addressing a briefing of the Union Health Ministry.
Raghavan said that new variants of Coronavirus are being detected which has increased the pace of infection so there is also a need to be updated the vaccines to deal with these new strains.
He said, the previous infections and vaccines could further mutate the coronavirus to survive. “We should therefore be prepared to take care of this scientifically.”
The Government has not expected the “ferocity” of the second wave, which over the last few weeks enclosed India with devastating implications, Raghavan said.
Last week India accounted for 46 per cent of new coronavirus cases in the world, reported World Health Organization (WHO). On Thursday 412,784 new cases and 3,980 deaths over 24 hours were reported in India. Meanwhile, experts believe the real figure to be much higher.
