In an accident at Vedanta’s Electrosteel Steels Limited (ESL), Bokaro, four workers sustained multiple burn injuries; immediately rushed to Bokaro General Hospital (BGH), where conditions are said to be stable, while two remain critical.
Four contract workers of M/s LB Engineering sustained burn injuries after an electrical flush and blast in a vacuum circuit breaker at the MRSS unit of ESL, said an eyewitness.
“The mishap occurred at around 10.30 am, all of them were engaged in a maintenance work. Suddenly, fire erupted after an electric flash and a big bang which resulted into multiple injuries to the four workers,” added the eyewitness.
The fire got controlled after the stiff struggle of firefighters, fire and later, they evacuated all the injured and immediately rushed them to the BGH, said another eyewitness.
The injured workers sustained multiple burn injuries, including Anirban Maitri (19), Palash Pal (20), Sahib Bhuniya (23) and Parth Manjhi (26); all of them hail from West Bengal. The conditions of Palash Pal and Parth Manjhi are said to be critical, hospital sources said.
Meanwhile, keeping their fingers crossed, ESL management did not comment on the incident; its public relations officials remained silent.
Later, the district administration constituted a team to investigate the reason behind the incident.
