RNS: The two-day Inter School Basketball Tournament 2022-23 kicked off at DPS Bokaro with zeal and enthusiasm on Thursday.
The tournament organised by DPS, Bokaro, in association with Dr. Radhakrishnan Sahodaya School Complex, Bokaro, began today with zeal and enthusiasm on the school premises in which 400 players from different schools are participating.
The event commenced with the welcome song followed by a synchronized March Past of the participating teams and an inspirational sports song. The DPS Bokaro students mesmerized the crowd with Zumba, Aerobics, Basketball dribbling, and Skating performances. All the players took an oath to play the game with true sportsmanship and to uphold the values of team spirit and fair play.
Jaideep Sarkar, Lead Officer, Global Active Partner City Programme cum International Volleyball Coach, was the Chief Guest of the inaugural function. The ceremony witnessed the dignified presence of Soumen Chakraborty, Vice President, Sahodaya & Principal GGPS, Sec-V, Bokaro and Bishwajit Patra, General Secretary Sahodaya and Principal ARS Public School.
The competition is held in four different categories of boys and girls for Under-14 and Under-19 age groups. In the inaugural match of the tournament (Under-19 Girls), Team DPS Bokaro won over Sri Ayyappa Public School and secured their place in the finals whereas in the Boys Category (Under-19) Sri Ayyappa Public School won over GGPS Chas.
At least seventeen matches were played on day-1 while the remaining semi-final and final matches under different categories will be played on a concluding day.
In his address Chief Guest Jaideep Sarkar highlighted the importance of sports and said that sports have the power to change the world. He said that sportsmanship inspires one to be a good human being. “Schools forge champions. Apart from developing sportsman spirit, sports also help in developing humanitarian values. It binds the society and ensures mutual respect,” he added.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. A. S. Gangwar, Principal, DPS Bokaro and President, Dr. Radhakrishnan Sahodaya School Complex, Bokaro said, “Sports brings forth the personality of an individual wherein each player has the opportunity to learn the limits and strive for better.”
He urged the players to give their best performance respecting all rules of fair play.
