Cabinet approves Indian Space Policy 2023

# Agrees to open sector to private players

RNS: Aiming to enhance the role of the Department of Space, boost activities of ISRO (Indian Space Research Organisation) missions, and give more significant participation of research, academia, start-ups and industry, the Indian Space Policy 2023 was approved by the Union Cabinet on Thursday.

In accordance with this policy, organizations like the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) and private sector firms would be held accountable for their respective roles and obligations.

Jitendra Singh, India’s Minister of State for Science and Technology, stated that the policy would increase the role of India’s space department and improve research, academia, start-ups, and industry. He made these remarks during a briefing for the cabinet.

As a result of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s initiative to open the space industry to private participation, the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) has seen an increase in the number of start-up companies, which has now reached 150 over the past three years.

The Indian Space Policy 2023 is meant to guide the development of India’s space industry during the coming decade.
