Jaideep Sarkar, an international sports expert and the Lead Officer of India’s first Global Active Partner City, Bokaro in Jharkhand, has been selected for an honorary doctorate by the United Nations Commission.
Priya Arora, a member of the management team of the United Nations Commission, confirms that Jaideep will be awarded the degree at our New Delhi office very shortly.
Jaideep was recently awarded the Dr B R Ambedkar National Award for Sports Cultivation. He is an Executive Board Member of the Indian Pierre De Coubertin Association (IPCA) and also an Asian Silver Medalist in Volleyball (AVC) with a Post Graduate Qualification in Sports Management, Global Accreditation in Coaching from the International Olympic Committee (IOC) & the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB).
Previously, he worked as a Project Officer for the Commonwealth Games in 2010 and as an Administrator for the National Games in 2011. Jaideep works at SAIL’s Bokaro Steel Plant (BSL), the town accredited in 2020-21 by the apex global authorities to expedite the IOC-supported salubrious mission of sports culture through the GAC programme at Bokaro Steel City in Jharkhand.
Jaideep also possesses a professional experience of more than 30 years in the areas of Sports Development, Sports Science, Advocacy & Coaching. He has continuously interacted as a Sports Resource Person in several Global Sports Promotional avenues besides assignments in Germany’s Leipzig University’s projects through ITK wing, International Day of Sports for Development & Peace (IDSDP).
He is passionate about making sports a global affair for human development through observing the values of “Olympism” and “Olympic Movement”.
During recent years, the active and dynamic role of Jaideep has been many times appreciated by his commendable advocacy at International platforms by IOC’s International Pierre De Coubdertin Committee (CIPC) and GAC authorities besides the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) constituted Indian Olympic Education Committee (IOEC).
He has also catalysed the Olympic Movement and Olympic Mission at the international level, particularly in South East Asia, bridging the gap of international boundaries through his pivotal role in the Olympic avenues. The commissioning of the partner city cluster of Rawalpindi-Attock-Chakwal of Pakistan in the GAC programme, exploring GAC in Kurigram (Bangladesh) and Kirtipur (Nepal), apart from enlisting probable candidate Notional Committees’ of Nepal, Sri Lanka & Pakistan, as well as full-fledged recognition of Gambia (Africa) in International Pierre De Coubertin Committee (CIPC) network, are some illustrations in this regard.
Recently, as a result of his crucial role in the volleyball event, grassroots promotion of the event gained a new dimension and filip.
The establishment of the National Volleyball Academy in the sports-rich state of Jharkhand, as well as the reinstitution of the key segment of Mini Volleyball for grassroots volleyball promotion across the country and sports corporate collaborations, is among the notable problems in this respect.
