RNS: At least eleven people, including three minors, have died and around dozens got sick after a gas leak incident occurred at a factory in the Giaspura area at Ludhiana in Punjab on Sunday morning at around 7.15 am.
Ludhiana Deputy Commissioner Surabhi Malik said that there may be a possibility of some gas contamination. “It is quite likely that there may have been some chemical reaction with methane in the main hole. Though an investigation is underway,” she added.
The affected area has been cordoned off. The nature and sources of the gas are not known yet. The NDRF team will investigate it, said Swati Tiwana, Sub Divisional Magistrate, Ludhiana.
The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) team is present at the spot to evacuate the people and will conduct the rescue operation.
Meanwhile, the state government has assured of all possible help in dealing with the incident.
