“Mocha” intensifies into severe cyclone with winds of 175 km/h: IMD

RNS: Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) reported that Very Severe Cyclonic Storm Mocha had strengthened into a very severe cyclone with wind speeds of approximately 175 kilometres per hour.

Cyclone Mocha is now located over the east-central part of the Bay of Bengal, around 550 km north-northwest of Port Blair, according to the IMD. It is anticipated that it would strike the shores of southeast Bangladesh and north Myanmar on May 14 as a Very Severe Cyclonic Storm with wind speeds of 150 to 160 kilometres per hour, according to the report.

IMD issued a forecast for the northeastern states predicting heavy to extremely heavy rainfall due to the shifting weather. According to the forecast, the majority of locations in the states of Tripura and Mizoram will see severe rainfall today and very high rainfall on 14 May.

Tomorrow, the IMD forecasted that several locations in Nagaland, Manipur, and South Assam would experience exceptionally heavy rainfall.

IMD has issued a heat warning stating that there will be another heatwave beginning on May 15 in central India, coastal Andhra Pradesh, and Odisha.

According to the report, the maximum temperature is also likely to rise by 2-4 degrees in Southern parts of India over the next 5 days. Meanwhile, the maximum temperature in Northwest India is also anticipated to climb by 3-5 degrees Celsius over the next 3 days.
