North Korea fires cruise missiles into Yellow Sea

RNS: North Korea fired multiple cruise missiles into the Yellow Sea, a body of water located between China and the Korean peninsula, on Saturday.

South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) confirmed the missile launches, marking yet another concerning development in the already strained relations between the two Koreas.

This comes just three days after North Korea fired two short-range ballistic missiles into the East Sea.

The recent series of missile tests by Pyongyang appears to be a response to South Korea and the United States, strengthening their defense cooperation, which aims to counter North Korea’s aggressive actions in the region.

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un had previously called for an escalation in the development of weapons, including tactical nuclear weapons. In response, South Korea and the United States conducted joint military exercises and deployed strategic assets to the area.

Launching cruise missiles into the Yellow Sea adds to the growing international concerns regarding North Korea’s missile capabilities and regional stability.

The situation continues to be closely monitored by the global community as further actions from North Korea could exacerbate tensions and trigger additional responses from neighbouring countries and the international community at large.”
