Researchers develop AI, IOT-based Integrated River Health Investigation System

RNS: A two-member research team of IIT-ISM, Department of Environmental Science & Engineering, developed an Artificial Intelligence ( AI) and the Internet to Things (IOT) based online real-time river health monitoring system titled Integrated River Health Investigation System (IRHIS).

The system developed by Professor SK Gupta in association with his research scholar Sujoy Gupta in 2021-2023 is inbuilt with safety alarms and video cameras to facilitate early signals to the decision makers against flooding, theft, and critical pollution locations, including more.

The demonstration of the system was made last week during a mega exhibition of the Union Ministry of Education held on the occasion of the 3rd Anniversary of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and the 2nd edition of the Akhil Bhartiya Shiksha Samagam at News Delhi.

The event was held on 29-30 July 2023 at Plenary Hall, ITPO, Pragati Maidan, New Delhi, which the Prime Minister inaugurated in the presence of other senior ministers, including Dharmendra Pradhan, Education Minister, witnessed the selection of only deep-tech and high-impact innovations for a demonstration that are high-impact innovations that are in the advanced stage of, and Innovative Startups and a demonstrable innovation.

Giving details, Professor SK Gupta said, “ It is one of the most advanced AI and IoT-based online real-time river health monitoring systems developed to fulfil the SDG 6 keeping because of its vital application in Namami Gange mission”.

“Equipped with advanced sensors, IRHIS can help in real-time monitoring of discharge of any toxic material in the river” further said Professor Gupta and added that the patent for the system has already been published.

Regarding the selection of his system for demonstration in the exhibition he said, “MoE’s Innovation Cell and AICTE, selected 150 Technology Readiness Level 7 (TRL 7) or above early-stage startups, edutech growth stage startups, innovations, and Institutions to demonstrate their contributions and breakthrough innovation achievements towards achieving the overall goal as envisioned under the National Education Policy 2020” further said Gupta.
