Breastfeeding also has a significant impact on the maternal well-being: Dr. Anima

RNS: As World Breastfeeding Week is celebrated from 01 to 07 August at BGH (Bokaro General Hospital), expecting mothers are being educated about the importance of breastfeeding through a special exhibition organized by the Department of Paediatrics.

The event, presided over by CMO Dr Bibi Karunamay, aims to raise awareness about breastfeeding and its significance, especially for working parents.

The exhibition showcased various activities to promote breastfeeding and was graced by the presence of Additional CMO cum Gynecologist and Obstetrician Dr Anima Kerketta.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Anima emphasized the theme of this year’s World Breastfeeding Week, which focuses on empowering working mothers to breastfeed without facing any inconveniences.

She highlighted that breastfeeding is not only beneficial for the baby, but also plays a vital role in the well-being of the mother. The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends initiating breastfeeding with the yellow thick, viscous mother’s breast milk, called colostrum, within an hour of the child’s birth.

Exclusive breastfeeding is recommended up to 6 months of age, and nutritious complementary foods should be introduced up to the age of 2 years or beyond.

The exhibition featured nursing students of BGH who displayed various models, posters, and slogans related to breastfeeding, providing attendees with valuable information. Additional CMO Dr Shravan, Dr RK Gautam, Dr Indranil Chowdhary, Dr Kajal Kislay, and Dr Manashweta also actively participated in the event, discussing the challenges faced by working mothers and potential solutions.

Dr Veena Lakda, Dr Jaya Aggarwal, Dr Shama Parveen, and other dignitaries graced the occasion, making the exhibition a comprehensive and informative platform for promoting the importance of breastfeeding in nurturing the health and well-being of both mothers and babies.
