RNS: North Korea claims it fired two short-range tactical ballistic missiles to practise nuclear strikes on South Korean military sites. State media stated the tests warned against US strategic bomber deployment to the region.
Two missiles landed in the sea in South Korea. The rockets coincide with yearly US-South Korea military drills. Pyongyang has traditionally called the drills war rehearsals.
The North’s army said the missiles were fired late Wednesday in a tactical nuclear strike rehearsal mimicking scorched earth strikes at South Korean command headquarters and airfields.
The launches occurred a day before South Korea, and the US concluded 11 days of military training. During drills, South Korean media reported at least one US B-1B strategic bomber flying above the Korean Peninsula. State media reported that North Korean leader Kim Jong-un watched a rehearsal on Tuesday, preparing his senior commanders for an all-out war with the South.
The report added that the simulation mimicked repelling a rapid invasion and then counterattacking to seize the entire southern half.
