India clinches gold in men’s 10m air rifle event, breaks world record in Asian Games

RNS: India made a remarkable start to the week at the ongoing Asian Games in Hangzhou, China, clinching the coveted Gold medal in the men’s 10m air rifle event and setting a new world record with a staggering score of 1893.7 points.

The Indian shooting contingent, composed of Rudrankksh Patil, Olympian Divyansh Panwar, and Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar, delivered an outstanding performance, amassing a total score of 1893.7 during the qualification round.

This exceptional achievement not only secured the Gold medal for India but also eclipsed the previous world record of 1893.3 points set by China.

With this latest triumph, India’s medal count at the Asian Games 2023 reached an impressive nine, comprising one Gold, three Silver, and five Bronze medals.

The trio of Rudrankksh Patil, Divyang Panwar, and Aishwary Tomar made the nation proud by clinching the Gold in the Men’s 10m air rifle event.

In addition to the Gold medal victory, India’s prowess in the Asian Games has shone in various disciplines. India’s men’s quadruple scull team and men’s four team in Rowing secured Bronze medals, showcasing their dedication and skill. Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar also added to India’s medal tally with a Bronze in the men’s 10m air rifle individual event.

The Indian shooting contingent had previously earned a Silver medal in the women’s 10m air rifle event, thanks to the remarkable performance of Ramita Jindal, Mehuli Ghosh, and Ashi Chouksey.

In the rowing discipline, Indian duo Arjun Lal Jat and Arvind Singh secured a Silver in the men’s lightweight double sculls. Rowing continued to be a source of success for India as the men’s eight team contributed another Silver medal, while Babu Lal Yadav and Lekh Ram claimed Bronze in the men’s pair category. Ramita, once again, demonstrated her shooting prowess by clinching a Bronze medal in the women’s 10m air rifle final.

Notably, the Indian women’s cricket team cemented their place in the Gold medal match by defeating Bangladesh convincingly in the semi-final, securing at least a Silver medal. They are scheduled to face Sri Lanka in the final.

As the competition at the Asian Games 2023 continues, Indian athletes in various sports, including gymnastics, 3×3 basketball, handball, and judo, will be vying for medals. Swimming and wushu events also hold the promise of adding to India’s growing medal tally at the prestigious event.
