# NML Celebrates 82nd CSIR Foundation Day

Jamshedpur: The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) – National Metallurgical Laboratory (NML) celebrated the 82nd CSIR Foundation Day with great enthusiasm at the NML Auditorium. The event featured a distinguished gathering, including Chief Guest Nirbhik Banerjee, Executive Director of RDCIS, SAIL, Ranchi; Dr. N.C. Murmu, Director of CSIR-NML and Aditya Mainak, Administrative Officer at CSIR-NML.

The celebration commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp, followed by a warm welcome extended by Dr. N.C. Murmu, the Director of NML, to the honoured guests, NML retirees, scientists, and other attendees.

Nirvik Banerjee, the Chief Guest, delivered the CSIR Foundation Day lecture on “Challenges towards Decarbonization of the Indian Steel Industry.”

As part of the CSIR Foundation Day observance, essay and quiz competitions were organized for employees. Nirvik presented awards to the winners of these competitions and meritorious student awards for NML wards.

The event also recognized CSIR-NML employees who had completed 25 years of service and those who had retired between September 30, 2022, and August 31, 2023.

A significant milestone was reached on this special day as CSIR-NML signed an agreement with RDCIS, SAIL, focused on the “Development of Zn-Al-Mg Based Hot Dip Coating for Steel Strips.” Dr. N.C. Murmu, Director of CSIR-NML, and Nirvik Banerjee, Executive Director of RDCIS, SAIL, were the signatories to the agreement.

Additionally, two CSIR-NML technologies were transferred during the celebration. The technology for “Zincometer: A sensing device for Real-time Zinc coating weight measurement of steel wires in Galvanized line” was transferred to the Ghamaria-based MSME company M/S Refosteel Instruments. The technology for the “Development of 98-99% pure Ti3AlC2 MAX phase” was transferred to M/S Global Nanotech, Mumbai.

In conclusion, Aditya, the Administrative Officer at CSIR-NML, delivered the vote of thanks.
