RNS: Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi held a significant bilateral meeting with the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Tahni in Doha on Thursday. The summit discussed ways to develop both economies’ sectors. It also advanced India-Qatar relations, a priority for Prime Minister Modi.
Both leaders held delegation-level and restricted conversations on economic cooperation, investments, energy partnership, space collaboration, urban infrastructure, cultural alliances, and people-to-people ties. They discussed regional and global topics of mutual importance.
Prime Minister Modi praised the Emir for caring for Qatar’s 8 lakh Indians and pledged to strengthen bilateral relations. He encouraged the Emir to visit India at his leisure, emphasizing the need for discussion and partnership.
“Had a wonderful meeting with HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani in Doha. We reviewed the full range of India-Qatar relations and discussed ways to deepen cooperation across various sectors,” PM Modi tweeted.
In response, the Emir thanked India for its valued relationship in the Gulf and highlighted the thriving Indian community’s contributions to Qatar’s development and international activities.
Modi also met Father Amir, His Highness Hamad Bin Khalifa Al Thani, later in the day and praised his visionary leadership for Qatar’s tremendous progress over the last decades. Modi thanked Father Amir for his observations on regional and global trends during their bilateral talks.
Modi’s visit to Qatar has rekindled bilateral relations and boosted collaboration in trade, business, technology, and culture. Following Qatar’s release of eight Indian nationals sentenced to death, the visit highlights the two nations’ strong connections. Modi’s invitation to the Emir to visit India underlines the importance of deepening connections and promoting development.
