Jharkhand’s New Cabinet: Basant Soren Gets Key Roles; Sita Soren Omitted

#Irked, JMM MLA Baidyanath Ram voiced, “The result will come in a day or two.”

RNS: The Champai government in Jharkhand witnessed the induction of eight MLAs from the ruling JMM-Congress alliance as ministers, marking a significant development in the state’s political landscape.

Among the newly sworn-in ministers are five from the JMM quota, including Basant Soren, Deepak Birua, Mithilesh Thakur, Hafizul Hassan, and Baby Devi, along with three from the Congress party – Rameshwar Oraon, Banna Gupta, and Badal Patralekh.

Basant Soren and Deepak Birua emerged as fresh faces in the Champai government, with Governor CP Radhakrishnan administering the oath of office to the newly appointed ministers.

Following the cabinet expansion, the Cabinet Secretariat and Coordination Department promptly issued a notification detailing the distribution of portfolios. Basant Soren, the younger brother of former Chief Minister Hemant Soren, secured three crucial ministries: Road construction, Building construction, and Water resources.

However, notable absentee from the oath-taking ceremony was Sita Soren, daughter-in-law of Shibu Soren and wife of the late Durga Soren, who was considered a contender for a ministerial post.

Chief Minister Champai Soren, along with Alamgir Alam (Congress) and Satyanand Bhokta (RJD), assumed office on February 2 following Hemant Soren’s resignation and subsequent arrest by the Enforcement Directorate in a land scam case.

Meanwhile, JMM MLA Baidyanath Ram, who was excluded from the list of ministers at the last minute, expressed his discontent. Ram, who was slated to be second on the list of MLAs to take the oath, received a call asking him to visit the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) instead of the Raj Bhawan.

Ram voiced his disappointment over the decision, stating that it reflected poorly on the Scheduled Caste community. He hinted at taking action in response to what he perceived as humiliation, indicating that “the result will come in a day or two.”
