DUMKA: A shocking incident of gang rape involving a Spanish tourist occurred late Friday night in Dumka, Jharkhand. The brutal assault took place in Kurumahat, near the Hansdiha police station.
According to the police, the victim, a woman who shared a passion for biking with her husband, had been camping in tents at Kunji hamlet, Dumka. The couple was on a cycling expedition to Bhagalpur, Bihar, when the horrific incident unfolded.
Dumka’s Superintendent of Police immediately visited the crime scene Friday night and has been overseeing the investigation since. Three individuals have been detained in connection with the gang rape, which reportedly involved a group of eight to seven men. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) and forensic experts are currently conducting a thorough investigation into the case, police said.
The Spanish woman is currently receiving medical treatment at the Saraiyahat Community Health Centre (CHC), while the detained individuals are being interrogated as part of the ongoing investigation.
The victim and her husband had arrived in India on a tourist visa as part of their Asian tour, which included visits to Pakistan and Bangladesh before reaching Dumka. They had planned to continue their journey to Nepal after Jharkhand.
Talking to the media persons Dumka, SP Pitamber Singh Kherwar confirmed that the arrested individuals had confessed to the crime and assured that efforts were underway to apprehend the remaining suspects.
Police became aware of the incident when a couple on the highway informed a passing PCR van around 10 pm on Friday. The PCR team, initially unaware of the severity of the situation, quickly responded and transported the victims to the nearest clinic, where the gravity of the situation became apparent.
The SP and SDPO immediately visited the hospital to speak with the victim and her husband.
Meanwhile, the SP expressed regret over not being informed about the presence of the biking tourists, stating that he would have arranged for their protection if he had been aware.
