Sudha Murty sworn in as Rajya Sabha MP

RNS: Philanthropist and author Sudha Murty was sworn in as a Member of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha on Thursday. The oath was administered by Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar in his chamber at the Parliament House. Piyush Goyal, the leader of the House, graced the occasion with his presence.

NR Narayana Murthy, Sudha Murty’s husband and the co-founder of Infosys, also attended the event in support of his wife.

Sudha Murty’s nomination to the Rajya Sabha came on the occasion of International Women’s Day on March 8, by President Droupadi Murmu.

Sudha Murty, aged 73, is a prolific author, with most of her books aimed at children. She is also a former chairperson of the Infosys Foundation, known for her significant contributions to English and Kannada literature.

Her accolades include the Padma Bhushan (2023), the Sahitya Akademi Bal Sahitya Puraskar, and the Padma Shri (2006).
