Why couldn’t Sonia Gandhi pick a long-time Congress worker for Raebareli Seat?

Ranchi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during a poll rally in Jharkhand’s Jamshedpur on Sunday, criticized Congress leader Sonia Gandhi for “abandoning” Raebareli and nominating her son Rahul Gandhi from the constituency instead of a long-serving party worker.

Modi highlighted Sonia Gandhi’s absence from Raebareli, which she represented in parliament, noting that she did not visit the constituency even once after the Covid pandemic began. “Now she has gone there asking for votes in favor of her son,” Modi remarked.

Sonia Gandhi, along with her children Rahul and Priyanka, addressed an election rally in Raebareli on Saturday, where she announced that she was entrusting her son Rahul Gandhi to the constituency, assuring the crowd that “he will not disappoint you.”

Modi also criticized Rahul Gandhi for contesting from two Lok Sabha seats, Raebareli and Kerala’s Wayanad. “The Congress prince has left Wayanad for Raebareli to contest the elections. He is telling everyone that this seat belongs to his mother,” Modi said, comparing the situation to a child claiming a school as his own because his father studied there.

“These family-oriented individuals are treating parliamentary seats as their inheritance. Jharkhand must be protected from such family-oriented parties,” the Prime Minister added.
