IIT-ISM Director holds open house for JEE (Adv.) 2024 qualified candidates

Dhanbad: An Open House session for JEE (Advanced) 2024 qualified candidates was held with Professor Sukumar Mishra, Director of IIT (ISM), providing an enriching experience for aspirants seeking admission into undergraduate courses. Participants enjoyed a virtual campus tour during the session and learned about the infrastructure and facilities of the esteemed institute.

Candidates from across the country interacted with Professor Mishra, who addressed their queries and provided insights about the nearly century-old institute. The two-hour virtual interaction, titled “Open House,” started at 11:30 am and included a meet-and-greet session, allowing students to discuss campus facilities, infrastructure, and various academic programs with the director.

Participants joined the session through a provided link and enjoyed a virtual tour of the 98-year-old technical institution. The tour highlighted various campus hotspots, including the Lower Ground, Upper Ground, Sports Complex, Student Activity Centre, Swimming Pool, Gymnasium, Boxing Ring, Billiards Room, and Squash Complex, in addition to academic facilities.

During the Q&A session, curious students asked a wide range of questions, which Professor Mishra addressed. The open house also allowed participants to interact with different deans and learn about the facilities in their respective departments.

Established in 1926 during the British Raj as the Indian School of Mines and Applied Geology, the institute has a rich legacy of over 98 years in Mining, Petroleum, and Earth Sciences. Modeled after the Royal School of Mines, London, it initially offered courses in Mining and Applied Geology. In 1957, the institute started offering courses in Petroleum Engineering and Applied Geophysics, changing its name to the Indian School of Mines.

Over the years, it expanded its curriculum to include Mining Machinery Engineering (1975), Fuel and Mineral Engineering (1976), Electronics Engineering (1977), Chemistry, Physics, and Mathematics & Computing (1989), and Computer Science Engineering (1997). The institute began admitting students through the IIT Joint Entrance Examination in 1997. Further expansions included Mechanical Engineering (1989), Electrical Engineering (2005), Environmental Engineering (2007), Chemical Engineering (2010), and Civil Engineering (2013). In 2016, it was renamed IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, attaining the prestigious IIT status.
