Italy: Prime Minister Narendra Modi held bilateral talks with his Italian counterpart, Giorgia Meloni, on Friday. The discussions focused on strengthening ties between India and Italy, covering areas such as commerce, energy, defense, and telecommunications.

PM Modi expressed his gratitude to PM Meloni for inviting him to the G7 Summit, where India participated as an Outreach country. He was warmly welcomed by Meloni upon his arrival in Italy.

Highlighting the key points of their discussions, PM Modi stated, “Our nations will work together in futuristic areas like biofuels, food processing, and critical minerals.” He shared this update in a post on social media platform X.

During an address at an Outreach session of the G7 summit in Italy’s Apulia region, Prime Minister Modi emphasized the impact of global uncertainties and tensions on the countries of the Global South. He called for collective efforts to ensure technology benefits all sections of society, aiming to remove social inequalities and expand human capabilities.

“We have to collectively ensure that the benefits of technology reach all sections of society, to realize the potential of every person in the society, to help in removing social inequalities, and expand human powers instead of limiting them. This should not only be our desire, but our responsibility. We have to convert monopoly in technology into mass usage,” he said.

PM Modi stressed the importance of making technology creative rather than destructive, to build an inclusive society. He noted India’s proactive approach in this regard, including the formulation of a National Strategy on Artificial Intelligence.

During the G7 Summit, PM Modi also held meetings with various global leaders, including Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Brazilian President Lula da Silva, UAE President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, US President Joe Biden, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, and French President Emmanuel Macron.

These interactions underscored India’s commitment to fostering international cooperation and addressing global challenges through dialogue and collaboration.
