Gua: Cobra and CRPF soldiers stationed in Saranda forest are confronting dual challenges: combating CPI Maoist Naxalites and battling a severe malaria outbreak.
On July 25, four CRPF soldiers, including a Deputy Commandant from the Cobra battalion, fell ill with malaria while engaged in operations against Naxalites. They have been hospitalized at Cell Hospital Kiriburu, where Dr. P.R. Singh and his team are providing medical treatment.
The malaria outbreak has been exacerbated by the rainy season, significantly increasing mosquito infestation in the dense Saranda forest. Soldiers involved in operations face constant health risks due to the high prevalence of malaria-carrying mosquitoes. Despite their extensive training and readiness to handle various challenges, protecting themselves from malaria remains a significant struggle.
Saranda, known for its high malaria incidence, poses additional difficulties as soldiers conduct operations through thick undergrowth, striving to clear the area of Naxalites and restore peace. Mosquito nets are impractical in the field, further complicating efforts to maintain soldier health amidst ongoing operations.
