Bokaro: Mithila’s cherished Madhushravani festival has commenced with fervent devotion and festive spirit. Celebrated during the Sawan month, this festival holds special significance for newly married couples in the Mithila region.
The festival began on Maun Panchami, Thursday, July 25, and will continue until Wednesday, August 7. It starts on the Panchami Tithi of Sawan Krishna Paksha, with rituals dedicated to Shiva-Parvati and the serpent god. The celebrations are particularly meaningful for newly married Maithili women, who perform these rites to ensure the well-being of their husbands.
During Madhushravani, worship materials are provided by the woman’s in-laws, and she consumes food and sweets brought from her marital home. The festive atmosphere is enriched with devotional songs sung by Maithili women.
On the final day of the festival, the newly married woman, dressed in new sarees and adorned with jewelry and makeup from her in-laws, participates in the Puja alongside her husband. The ritual also includes the burning of Temi.
The Pujan is conducted by a female Pandit, and the concluding ceremony features a special feast for relatives and friends.
