RNS: In Jharkhand, the Howrah-Mumbai Mail suffered a severe derailment early this morning between Barabambo and Kharsawa railway stations, near Potobeda village in the Chakradharpur railway division (which is 80 kilometers away from Jamshedpur, at 3:45 am).
The accident resulted in the deaths of two passengers, whose bodies were recovered from the B-4 coach during ongoing relief and rescue efforts. Numerous other passengers sustained injuries and have been taken to local hospitals for treatment.
The train, en route from Howrah to Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus in Mumbai, veered off track, causing 18 of its bogies to derail. A relief train has arrived at the scene, and rescue operations are currently in full swing.
In response to the incident, the Railways have established helplines for affected passengers and their families at the following numbers: Tatanagar (06572 290324), Chakradharpur (06587 238072), Rourkela (06612 501072, 06612 500244), Ranchi (06512 787711), and Howrah (94333 57920, 03326 382217).
The derailment has disrupted rail traffic on the Tatanagar-Chakradharpur section of the South Eastern Railway. As a result, several long-distance routes have been redirected, and numerous trains have been either canceled or terminated prematurely.
