Bokaro: The renowned Madhushravani festival, a significant event for newly married couples in Mithila, concluded today with vibrant celebrations and deep devotion. The festival, which is observed during the month of Sawan, began with the Mounpanchami worship on July 25 and wrapped up today.
Madhushravani, a key festival among several dedicated to newlyweds in Mithila, is marked by the worship of Shiva-Parvati and the serpent god. This annual tradition, commencing on the fifth day of Krishna Paksha in Sawan, is particularly significant for newly married Maithili women, who participate in these rituals to ensure the well-being of their husbands.
During the festival, worship materials are traditionally sourced from the bride’s in-laws’ home. The newly married women partake in meals and sweets provided by their in-laws as part of the festivities.
The atmosphere throughout the festival was infused with devotional songs performed by Maithili women. On the concluding day, the brides, dressed in new sarees and adorned with jewelry and makeup items from their in-laws, participated in the puja alongside their grooms. The ritual of burning the temi was also carried out, marking the end of the festival.
