Deceptive Offer: Jharkhand Labourers Held Hostage in Tamil Nadu

Dhanbad: Five labourers from Jharkhand have found themselves in a dire situation in Tamil Nadu after being lured with promises of higher wages by a broker. The labourers, who were initially attracted by the prospect of better pay, have become hostages in the southern state.

The victims, hailing from Dhanbad and Giridih districts, managed to secretly record a video detailing their plight and sent it to their families. The video has prompted their families to urgently appeal to the government for their release. The families have also filed a formal complaint with the Barwaadda police station.

The trapped labourers include Ramesh Mahato from Tilaiya Panchayat, Paro Singh from Simarkodi village, and Bablu Tudu, Naresh Tudu, and Sukalal Soren from Jamdaha village.

According to Suresh Mahato, Ramesh’s brother, the broker had promised a salary of Rs 25,000 and persuaded them to move to Tamil Nadu. However, once there, the workers were held captive, and their mobile phones were confiscated. Suresh Mahato revealed that Ramesh had taken on debt for his daughter’s marriage, which led him to fall for the broker’s offer.

JMM Tundi MLA Mathura Mahato has confirmed that the issue has been brought to the government’s attention. “The government is taking this matter seriously and will soon take action to secure the release of the detained workers,” Mahato assured.
