Election Commission Set to Announce Assembly Poll Schedule

 

New Delhi: The Election Commission is poised to announce the schedule for upcoming assembly elections in Haryana, Maharashtra, Jharkhand, and Jammu & Kashmir later today. A press conference is scheduled for 3 p.m. this afternoon in New Delhi to reveal the timetable.

The announcement follows recent visits by the Commission to Jammu & Kashmir and Haryana to assess the preparedness for the elections. Earlier, the Supreme Court had mandated that assembly elections in Jammu & Kashmir be held by September of this year. In Haryana, the term of the current 90-member assembly is set to expire on November 3, 2024.

Additionally, assembly elections are pending in Maharashtra and Jharkhand. The term of the Maharashtra Assembly concludes on November 26 this year, while the Jharkhand Assembly’s term ends on January 5 next year.
