IIT-ISM, Dhanbad Hosts Working Capital Training for NHPC Executives

Dhanbad: A three-day training program on Working Capital Management in Power Projects for NHPC Limited executives has commenced at IIT (ISM) Dhanbad. The program, organized by the Department of Management Studies & Industrial Engineering (DMS&IE) at IIT (ISM), has brought together 20 executives from NHPC, India’s largest hydropower development organization, to enhance their expertise in managing working capital within power projects.

The participants, ranging from E6 to E8 levels in NHPC’s management cadre, engaged in hands-on lab training and interactive case study sessions designed to deepen their understanding of working capital management. The training kicked off with a presidential address by Prof. Sukumar Mishra, Director of IIT (ISM), at the Executive Development Centre.

In his inaugural speech, Professor Mishra emphasised the critical role of industry in validating academic theories and ensuring their practical applicability. “Industry plays a vital role in bridging the gap between theoretical research and real-world execution,” he said. Prof. Mishra highlighted the importance of assessing products under actual industry conditions to determine their sustainability and financial viability. He underscored that financial sustainability is a key aspect of project success, which the training aims to address.

Professor J.K. Pattanayak, from the Department of Management Studies & Engineering, stressed the value of interactive sessions during the program, noting that these exchanges would significantly enhance the participants’ knowledge. Prof. Sandeep Mondal provided an overview of the academic programs offered by the Department of Management Studies & Industrial Engineering at IIT (ISM).

Professor Rashmi Singh, one of the coordinators of the training, discussed the importance of effective working capital management in the hydroelectric power sector. She pointed out that such capacity-building programs are crucial for improving productivity and efficiency in the sector.

Professor Niladri Das, the other coordinator, delivered the vote of thanks and outlined previous training initiatives conducted for HPCL Limited by the Department of Management Studies & Industrial Engineering at IIT (ISM).

The training program promises to be a valuable experience for the NHPC executives, equipping them with the latest tools and techniques for effective working capital management in power projects.
