Kanpur: A woman was tragically killed last night in Kanpur, leaving her 9-year-old granddaughter in critical condition. The child has been admitted to the ICU at Hallet Hospital, where she is receiving urgent medical care.
The motive behind the attack remains unclear, but police are exploring several angles, including potential enmity, robbery, and an assault on the girl.
Authorities responded promptly to the incident in Purvamir village, with ACP Harish Chander and DCP East Shravan Kumar Singh arriving at the scene alongside officers from the Maharajpur police station. A forensic team and dog squad have also been deployed to gather evidence.
According to police reports, the victim, 55-year-old Kusuma Devi, was asleep in her home with her granddaughter at the time of the incident. Kusuma’s husband, Shankar Savita, passed away a decade ago. The couple had two sons, Himanshu and Govind, both of whom are married. Himanshu resides near Naubasta Dhobi Pulia in Kanpur, while Govind works and lives in Ajmer.
Dinesh, a relative who lives just 50 meters away, informed police that his daughter, Priyanshi, had been staying overnight with Kusuma, who often cared for her.
As the investigation unfolds, police have not yet determined the exact cause of the incident but are confident that the perpetrators will be apprehended soon. The search for suspects is ongoing, and the community remains on edge as authorities work to uncover the truth behind this tragic event.
