CBSE Cluster III Basketball Tournament Kicks Off at DPS Bokaro

Bokaro: Exhibiting their talents of dribbling, blocking, holding, free and multiple throws, placings to earn regular points basketeers of Bokaro, Jamshedpur, Ranchi and Dhanbad school teams won their matches in CBSE Cluster- III Inter School Basketball Tournament 2024 which kicked of at DPS Bokaro campus today after a grand opening ceremony with big pomp and show.

This tournament brought together approximately 1200 enthusiastic young cagers from various schools across Bihar and Jharkhand, showcasing their skills and passion for basketball.

The Chief Guest of the occasion was Harbhajan Singh, former Olympian of Indian Basketball team (Summer Olympics 1980) and President, Jharkhand Basketball Association.

The Opening Ceremony was also graced by the Guest of Honour Satbir Singh Sahota, International Sportsperson and National Champion in Cycling, Santosh Kumar, CBSE Observer and technical delegate Priya Ranjan Kumar Singh along with Principals and educationists of the district.

In the inaugural match of the Under-19 girls’ category, Sharda Global School, Ranchi defeated Sree Ayyappa Public School, Bokaro by 23-02, while in the boys’ category, Chinmaya Vidyalaya, Bokaro trounced DAV Dhurwa, Ranchi with a score of 29-03. Till the report being sent, in the Under-14 girls’ category, Dhanbad Public School triumphed over Mount Litera Public School, Begusarai with a score of 16-0. Bokaro Public School outplayed Dhanbad Public School with an impressive scoreline of 32-0. In the Under-19 girls’ category, DPS Ranchi beat Army School Ranchi by a big margin of 23-04 and in the Under-17 girls’ category, Lady KC Memorial, Ranchi defeated Sree Ayyappa Public School, Bokaro by 14-02. In the Under-14 boys’ category, St. Mary’s English School, Jamshedpur and Jawahar Vidya Mandir, Ranchi got walkover Notre-Dame Academy, Munger and Creane Memorial High School, Gaya respectively.

The inaugural function commenced with the traditional lamp lighting ceremony followed by a melodious welcome song and an energetic and colourful Zumba dance by the young dancers. The March Past was a grand spectacle of 1200 students representing 64 Schools.

The Chief Guest, declared the meet Open followed by an inspiring speech encouraging the participants to give their best and uphold the values of fair play.

Principal, Dr. A. S. Gangwar conveyed his best wishes to all the participants and encouraged the basketeers to play with passion and sportsman spirit adding, “Basketball is not just a game of points and trophies; it is a journey of teamwork and ‘self -belief’.”
