PM Modi Arrives in Laos for ASEAN-India and East Asia Summits

Vientiane, Laos: Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Vientiane this afternoon for a two-day visit, aimed at strengthening India’s ties with ASEAN nations. The Prime Minister’s trip coincides with the 21st ASEAN-India Summit and the 19th East Asia Summit.

Upon his arrival, PM Modi was greeted by Lao PDR’s Minister of Home Affairs, Vilayvong Bouddakham. Members of the Indian diaspora also welcomed him at his hotel, highlighting the strong community ties in the region.

During his visit, PM Modi will participate in the ASEAN-India Summit, where leaders will assess progress in their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and outline future cooperation strategies. The Prime Minister is expected to hold bilateral meetings with various member countries to discuss mutual interests.

Later today, Modi will attend the East Asia Summit, which serves as a crucial platform for leaders to address challenges affecting peace, stability, and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region. In his departure statement, he emphasized the significance of India’s Act East Policy, stating that it aims to deepen cultural and civilizational ties, particularly through shared heritage like Buddhism and the Ramayana.

Modi expressed optimism about his discussions with Lao PDR leadership, anticipating that these meetings will enhance bilateral relations. The ASEAN-India Summit and East Asia Summit present pivotal opportunities for India to engage with regional leaders on strategic issues and foster collaborative efforts for future growth.

This visit marks a key moment in India’s diplomatic efforts within Southeast Asia, underscoring its commitment to fostering strong relationships with its ASEAN partners.
