New Delhi: The Election Commission of India has officially announced the election schedule for the upcoming assembly polls in Maharashtra and Jharkhand. Maharashtra, which has 288 assembly seats, will conduct its elections in a single phase on November 20. In contrast, Jharkhand, with 81 assembly seats, will hold its elections in two phases on November 13 and November 20.
Additionally, by-elections for 48 assembly seats and 2 Lok Sabha seats, including the high-profile Wayanad Lok Sabha seat, will also take place on November 13 and 20 across 15 states. The counting of votes for all elections is scheduled for November 23.
Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar revealed at a press conference that the term of the 288-member Maharashtra assembly will conclude on November 26, while Jharkhand’s assembly term will end on 5 January 2025.
In Jharkhand, approximately 2.60 crore voters are eligible to cast their ballots, comprising 1.31 crore male and 1.29 crore female voters. Among them, 11.84 lakh are first-time voters, and 66.84 lakh belong to the youth demographic. The elections in Jharkhand will see 43 constituencies voting in the first phase and 38 in the second phase.
The first phase on November 13 will cover constituencies including Koderma, Hazaribagh, Ranchi, and Gumla, among others. Meanwhile, the second phase on November 20 will encompass seats such as Dhanbad, Giridih, and Bokaro.
In Maharashtra, there are 9.63 crore eligible voters who will participate in the upcoming assembly elections.
