Palamu: Palamu police achieved a significant breakthrough in their ongoing battle against the banned Naxalite organization CPI Maoist by discovering a substantial weapons cache on Friday. The operation yielded various firearms and ammunition, including cartridges for AK-47s, SLRs, and INSAS rifles, sources said.
Acting on intelligence about a hidden Naxalite weapons dump in the hilly region of Pipra, police launched a search operation that led to the recovery of the concealed arms. The ammunition was reportedly stored in old utensils, indicating an effort to camouflage it from authorities.
Officials suspect that the Maoists had strategically hidden this cache to prepare for a major attack. The area is known to be under the influence of Nitesh Yadav, a regional committee member of the CPI Maoist, who has a reward of Rs 15 lakh on his head.
Preliminary reports suggest that around 994 cartridges and a 303 rifle were found at the site. However, the police have not disclosed further details. The search operation in the vicinity continues, with the possibility of uncovering additional weapons as the investigation progresses.
