PM Modi Calls for BRICS Unity Against Terrorism at BRICS Summit

Kazan: In a powerful address at the 16th BRICS Summit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged member nations to unite in their fight against terrorism and the financing of such activities. Speaking during a closed plenary session, Modi emphasized the importance of eliminating double standards when addressing this critical global issue.

Highlighting the need for proactive measures to prevent radicalization among youth, the Prime Minister called for a collaborative effort to advance the Comprehensive Convention on International Terrorism within the United Nations framework.

Modi also addressed the urgent need for global regulations concerning cybersecurity and the safe development of artificial intelligence. He noted the rising challenges posed by cyber threats, deepfake technology, and misinformation, stressing that BRICS nations have a significant role to play in tackling these issues.

Reflecting on the current global landscape marked by conflicts, economic uncertainty, climate change, and terrorism, Modi advocated for dialogue and diplomacy over war. He underscored that BRICS has the potential to create new opportunities for a secure and prosperous future, citing the collective success in overcoming the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Prime Minister identified inflation control and the security of food, energy, health, and water resources as priority areas for collaboration among BRICS nations. He emphasized that BRICS, as a diverse and inclusive platform, should project a message of unity and public interest rather than division.

Additionally, Modi expressed India’s readiness to welcome new partner nations into the BRICS framework, insisting that such decisions should be made unanimously. He also called for timely reforms in global institutions, including the UN Security Council, Multilateral Development Banks, and the World Trade Organization, to better address contemporary challenges.
