Senior litterateur and stage announcer Buddhinath Jha recalled his many associations with Sinha, describing her as a “very accomplished folk singer” whose legacy would live on. “The country has lost a great folk artist,” he said. All India Minister of Sanskar Bharati, Dr. Sanjay Kumar Chaudhary, called the news “disturbing” and highlighted how Sinha’s voice had become synonymous with the Chhath Mahaparva festival. “Her voice will never fade,” Chaudhary added, praising her simplicity and the impact of her music on generations of listeners.
Sinha, born in Bihar, was not only beloved for her folk contributions but also for her mainstream work, including the immortal song “Kahe Tose Sajna” from the Bollywood film Maine Pyar Kiya. Her influence transcended regional boundaries, making her a beloved figure in both the Maithili and Bhojpuri music scenes.
Classical singer Pt. Rana Jha expressed deep sorrow, noting the “deep void” left in the music world, while singer Arun Pathak lamented the loss of the Maithili and Bhojpuri folk music icon, especially as her Chhath songs continue to be sung across the nation during the festival.
Dr. Rakesh Ranjan, Secretary of the Indian Music Art Academy, praised Sinha’s contribution to folk music, saying her singing brought stability and a new dimension to the genre that would be hard to replicate.
Many others, including noted artists and cultural figures from the Bokaro district, have paid tribute to Sharda Sinha, remembering her as a towering figure in the world of folk music. Her passing has left an indelible mark on the music community, with fans and artists alike expressing condolences and remembering her for her immense talent and cultural contributions.
