Ranchi: As the first phase of Jharkhand’s Assembly elections progressed, the state recorded a voter turnout of 59.28% by 3 PM, according to data released by the Election Commission of India (ECI).
Seraikella-Kharsawan emerged as the top constituency with a turnout of 66.38%, followed by Lohardaga at 65.99% and Simdega at 64.31%. In contrast, Ranchi, the state capital, saw the lowest voter participation at 53.40%, while Palamu registered 56.57%.
Other constituencies showed varying turnout figures by 3 PM, with Ramgarh at 59.22%, Khunti at 63.35%, Gumla at 64.59%, West Singhbhum at 60.35%, Latehar at 62.81%, Garhwa at 61.06%, East Singhbhum at 58.72%, and Hazaribagh at 57.16%.
Voting began at 7 AM across 43 constituencies, including five in Ranchi district. A total of 663 candidates are competing in this phase, with 683 candidates overall in the elections. Approximately 13.7 million voters, including 6.87 million men, 6.84 million women, and 303 third-gender individuals, will cast their votes to decide the fate of the candidates. Of the 683 candidates, 609 are men, 73 are women, and one is from the third gender.
