Darbhanga: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today inaugurated 18 new Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Jan Aushadhi Kendras (PMBJK) at various railway stations across the country, aimed at providing affordable medicines to passengers. The inauguration was done via video conferencing from Darbhanga in Bihar, alongside the launch of several other developmental projects worth over Rs 12,000 crore.
These new medicine centers are part of the government’s broader efforts to make essential medications more accessible and affordable, particularly for travelers at railway stations. Modi emphasized that ensuring the availability of low-cost medicines for all citizens is a key pillar of his administration’s healthcare agenda.
In his address, PM Modi highlighted the government’s focus on delivering holistic healthcare services, stressing five key areas: disease prevention, affordable screening, technology-enabled treatments, and the provision of high-quality health services to improve the well-being of common citizens.
“Our government is working to ensure that healthcare reaches every individual, especially those from economically weaker sections,” Modi said. “In the coming years, we will add 75,000 new medical seats to meet the growing demand for trained healthcare professionals.”
The Prime Minister also outlined other significant health initiatives, including the opening of more than 1.5 lakh Ayushman Arogya Mandirs, which provide healthcare access to underprivileged communities. He reiterated the integration of Yoga, Ayurveda (Ayush), and nutrition into mainstream healthcare services to promote a better lifestyle and preventive health.
Modi credited the NDA government with transforming the healthcare landscape in India, specifically through initiatives like Ayushman Bharat and the PM Jan Aushadhi Yojana. “These schemes have brought affordable healthcare and medicines to the doorstep of millions. Ayushman Bharat alone has benefited over four crore people, saving poor families Rs 1.25 lakh crore in medical expenses,” he added.
The Prime Minister also emphasized the importance of preventive healthcare, citing initiatives such as the Fit India Movement and the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan as essential components of a national effort to promote healthy living.
Further addressing the concerns of flood-prone regions, Modi mentioned the Centre’s Rs 11,000 crore initiative for flood mitigation in the Kosi and Mithila regions, aimed at providing lasting relief to vulnerable communities in Bihar.
The PM’s speech in Darbhanga was part of his broader vision to improve healthcare access, enhance infrastructure, and ensure economic empowerment for all segments of society.
