New Delhi: President Droupadi Murmu today emphasized India’s growing leadership in oceanic transport and its ability to harness monsoon-driven sea capacity, underscoring the nation’s commitment to maritime security and economic growth. Speaking at the Navy Day celebration held at the Blue Flag Beach in Puri, Odisha, the President outlined the pivotal role of the Indian Navy in ensuring the country’s maritime security, as well as supporting India’s goal of becoming a “Viksit Bharat” (Developed India) by 2047.
Addressing a large audience, President Murmu highlighted that India’s future prosperity is closely tied to its maritime heritage. “Our economy is full of promises and hopes, defined by our seas,” she said. “The Indian Navy will continue to safeguard India’s economic growth, protect our interests in global maritime trade, and help our nation expand its presence across the world.” She also pointed to India’s rich maritime history, long coastline, and strategically located islands, all of which contribute to its status as a major maritime power.
Further, the President noted that India has emerged as a leader in oceanic transport, shipbuilding, and leveraging monsoon-driven sea capabilities. “We have made significant strides in maritime infrastructure and are now pioneers in harnessing the full potential of the seas,” she stated.
The Navy Day celebrations at Blue Flag Beach also marked the anniversary of Operation Trident, a key naval offensive during the 1971 Indo-Pak war. The event showcased the Indian Navy’s strength and technological prowess, with over 15 ships and submarines, as well as more than 40 aircraft, taking part in the display. The event also included thrilling aerial maneuvers by MiG-29K and Hawk fighter jets, along with combat exercises by the Marine Commandos (MARCOS), submarine operations, amphibious landings, and rocket firing demonstrations from warships.
The Navy Day festivities were aimed at showcasing the Indian Navy’s advanced capabilities and reaffirming its role in safeguarding the country’s maritime borders, while also protecting vital sea lanes for international trade. The President’s address underscored the importance of maritime power in the nation’s economic and strategic growth as India continues to assert its influence on the global stage.
