Dhanbad: Professor Sukumar Mishra, Director of the Indian Institute of Technology (Indian School of Mines) Dhanbad, has been named a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), effective January 1, 2025. This prestigious recognition is in honor of his outstanding contributions to the fields of microgrid control and smart charging technologies.
The IEEE Fellow rank is one of the highest distinctions in the field of electrical and electronic engineering, awarded to individuals who have made significant advancements in the profession. Less than 0.1% of IEEE voting members are selected each year, highlighting the exceptional nature of Professor Mishra’s achievements.
In recognition of this honor, Professor Mishra will receive the IEEE Fellow certificate and a 10K Gold Fellow pin, symbols of his elevation to the highest level of IEEE membership.
In addition to this recognition, Professor Mishra was recently honored with the Hingorani Award 2024 by the Bangalore Chapter of the IEEE Power and Energy Society. The award acknowledges his significant contributions to solar photovoltaic systems, especially his work in developing reliable microgrids for residential areas.
Professor Mishra’s research focuses on advanced control techniques for grid-forming inverters, which are essential for addressing the complex challenges of modern power grids.
His work helps to ensure the smooth integration of renewable energy sources, such as solar panels, wind turbines, fuel cells, and hydroelectric systems, into existing power infrastructure. His findings, published at the 2021 IEEE Energy Conversion Congress and Exposition (ECCE), have been instrumental in improving the efficiency and reliability of power grids.
Given the increasing global demand for sustainable energy solutions, Professor Mishra’s research plays a critical role in advancing distributed energy systems that can integrate renewable energy sources into national grids, ensuring a greener and more resilient energy future.
IIT-ISM Dhanbad congratulates Professor Sukumar Mishra on this prestigious honor and looks forward to his continued groundbreaking contributions to electrical and electronic engineering.
