CSIR-NML Signs MoU with M/s Makaney Metals for Recycling Industrial Scraps to Recover Valuable Metals

Jamshedpur: CSIR-NML (National Metallurgical Laboratory) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with M/s Makaney Metals, Mumbai, on Thursday to recycle industrial scraps and waste materials for the recovery of valuable metals and the production of saleable products.

The MoU was formalized in a ceremony attended by key officials from CSIR-NML, including Director Dr. Sandip Ghosh Chowdhury, Project Leader Dr. Ankur Sharma, Co-Project Leader Dr. Manis Kumar Jha, Head of MER Dr. Sanjay Kumar, Senior Principal Scientist Dr. Jhumki Hait, Senior Scientist Dr. Krishna Kumar, and a team of researchers. Also present were Dr. S.K. Pal, Dr. Beena Kumari, and Dr. A.K. Sahu from the RPBD side, who played an instrumental role in finalizing the agreement.

This collaboration aligns with the global focus on the circular economy and aims to provide indigenous technology for sustainable metal recovery from alternative resources. As natural mineral resources become limited and energy costs rise, recycling industrial scraps will not only contribute to environmental conservation but also boost the national economy by creating employment opportunities and supporting the empowerment of marginalized communities.

Dr. Chowdhury emphasized the significance of this effort, noting that it will play a key role in both sustainable development and the efficient use of resources. The initiative is expected to create valuable products while reducing the dependency on traditional mining methods, aligning with India’s broader goals of sustainability and economic growth.
