BIT Mesra Hosts One-Day Training on Blockchain Technology for Energy Management

Ranchi: The Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering at Birla Institute of Technology (BIT), Mesra, Ranchi, successfully concluded a one-day research training program on “Blockchain Technology and Its Application in Secured Energy Management for Microgrid” on December 21, 2024. The event aimed to introduce researchers to the potential of blockchain technology in transforming energy management systems, particularly in microgrids.

Organized in line with the institution’s Scientific Social Responsibility (SSR) policy and supported by a core research grant from the Department of Science and Technology (DST), the program focused on securing energy management systems through innovative blockchain applications. Sponsored by the Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB, now known as ANRF), the training also highlighted groundbreaking research on secured data analytics in microgrid energy systems, encouraging collaboration among emerging researchers in this field.

The program kicked off with a session led by Dr. Deepak Kumar, Program Coordinator and Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, who provided a detailed introduction to blockchain technology and its potential applications in secured energy management. Dr. Gauri Shankar Gupta, Assistant Professor in the EEE Department, delivered the vote of thanks, marking the conclusion of the inaugural session.

Throughout the day, participants were engaged in insightful lectures and a hands-on session led by research scholar Abdullah Umar, where they explored the practical applications of blockchain technology in real-time energy management, peer-to-peer energy trading, and the integration of Internet of Things (IoT) in microgrids.

The training culminated in a valedictory session, where Dr. Deepak Kumar distributed certificates of participation to the attendees, acknowledging their dedication and enthusiasm.

The event was met with overwhelming positive feedback, with participants commending the faculty and program coordinators for delivering a comprehensive and impactful experience.

This training program marks another significant step in BIT Mesra’s commitment to advancing research and fostering innovation in blockchain-enabled energy systems, furthering the institution’s efforts to drive progress in this vital technological area.
