Dhanbad: Dr. K.V. Vidyanandan, a Professor of Practice in the Department of Electrical Engineering at the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Calicut, Kerala, recently delivered an insightful lecture on the pivotal role of hydrogen in transforming the power and transport sectors.
The lecture, titled “Emerging Roles of Hydrogen in Power and Transport Sectors,” was held at the Department of Electrical Engineering, IIT-ISM Dhanbad.
The event, attended by faculty, research scholars, and students, was chaired by Prof. Sukumar Mishra, Director of IIT-ISM. Prof. Sukanta Das, Head of the Department of Electrical Engineering, along with several faculty members, were also present.
In his presentation, Dr. Vidyanandan explored the vast potential of hydrogen as a clean and sustainable energy carrier. He shared the latest advancements in hydrogen technologies, with a focus on their applications in power generation and transportation. The lecture also addressed key challenges and solutions for integrating hydrogen into existing energy systems and provided a global outlook on hydrogen’s role in the energy transition.
A Distinguished Career in the Energy Sector
Dr. Vidyanandan brings over three decades of experience in the energy sector, having spent 38 years at NTPC Limited before joining NIT Calicut in 2023. He retired as General Manager at the Power Management Institute (PMI) in Noida, after assignments at major NTPC Super Thermal Power Stations in Farakka, Korba, and Singrauli.
Dr. Vidyanandan holds a B.Tech in Electrical Engineering from NIT Calicut, an M.Tech and Ph.D. from IIT Delhi, and a D.C.A from Raipur.
Research and Global Contributions
A leading expert in renewable energy, Dr. Vidyanandan’s research spans wind and solar PV systems, energy storage, grid integration of renewables, electric vehicles, and hydrogen fuel cells. He has authored 23 research articles and five operation manuals for thermal power plant simulators, with his work cited over 1,200 times. His international experience includes training programs in England, Australia, and the Middle East. Dr. Vidyanandan is also a senior member of IEEE (USA) and serves as a peer reviewer for IEEE and IET journals.
