Dhanbad: Professor Prasoon Kumar Singh of IIT-ISM Dhanbad has been appointed as the Chairman of the Technical Committee for the Accreditation Scheme for Prospecting Agency (APA) and Mining Plan Preparing Agency (MPPA) by QCI-NABET (Quality Council of India-National Accreditation Board for Education and Training).
NABET, an autonomous body under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India, made the appointment.
Professor Singh, a faculty member in the Department of Environmental Science and Engineering, brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the role. He currently serves as the Lab In Charge of the Land Use and Hydrology Laboratory at IIT-ISM and the Coordinator of the Centre of Water Resource Management. With a background as a former scientist at the Central Institute of Mining and Fuel Research (CIMFR), Professor Singh was selected for the esteemed position by the NABET Board due to his extensive knowledge in environmental science and engineering.
In his new role, Professor Singh will guide the development and updating of accreditation schemes for prospecting or exploration agencies and mining plan preparation agencies. His leadership in this capacity reflects the high trust placed in him by the national accreditation body. The tenure of his appointment is set for two years, beginning 14 January, with the possibility of an extension.
A respected academic, Professor Singh holds memberships in several professional bodies, including the International Association of Hydrological Sciences (IAHS) and the Indian Association of Hydrologists.
NABET-QCI also accredits him as an expert in Geology, Land Use, and Hydrogeology for Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA). Professor Singh’s research spans critical areas like groundwater assessment, environmental geochemistry, and the application of Remote Sensing and GIS in environmental management. He has mentored over 22 Ph.D. scholars and has numerous impactful publications to his name.
