Gaya: A high-profile Cambodian delegation, headed by Her Excellency Dr. Pich Chanmoy Hun Manet, the First Lady of Cambodia, visited the Mahabodhi Temple in Bodh Gaya on Sunday, January 19, 2025. Accompanied by senior officials, spouses of top leaders, and other dignitaries, the delegation received a warm welcome from the temple authorities.
Upon arrival, the delegation was greeted by the Head Monk, Ven. Bhikkhu Chalinda, along with Caretaker Monk Ven. Dinanand and Ven. Buddharatna (Manoj Bhante). Dr. Mahashweta Maharathi, Secretary of the Bodhgaya Temple Management Committee (BTMC), along with other committee members, also welcomed the visitors.
The Most Revered Sangharaja of Cambodia, along with other monks and the delegation, proceeded to the main shrine of the Mahabodhi Temple. In a serene and reverent atmosphere, Her Excellency and the delegation offered flowers, fruits, and lit lamps and incense as a mark of devotion. The monks chanted sacred Sutras, invoking the Buddha’s blessings for the delegation.
The group was then guided through the temple complex, visiting the sacred Bodhi Tree, where Her Excellency offered prayers and meditated, reflecting on the site’s profound spiritual significance. The delegation also visited other important locations within the temple, including Mucalinda Sarovar, Ratna Griha, Chankraman (Jewel Walk), Ajapala Nigrodha Tree, and Rajayatna Tree, offering prayers at each spot.
As a gesture of appreciation, Dr. Mahashweta Maharathi and BTMC members presented mementos to Her Excellency and the delegation. Before concluding the visit, the First Lady signed the Visitors’ Book, expressing her deep gratitude for the opportunity to visit Bodh Gaya and highlighting the meaningful experience of offering prayers at the Main Sanctum and under the Bodhi Tree.
This visit reinforces the strong spiritual and cultural bond between Cambodia and the Buddhist heritage of Bodh Gaya. The delegation is scheduled to return to the Mahabodhi Temple on Monday, January 20, 2025, for special prayers under the Bodhi Tree, conducted by the Sangharaja of Cambodia and other monks.
